Description
A “parlor song” by American songwriter Stephen Foster (1826–1864), this gorgeous waltz was the composer’s last creation, written a few days prior to his death. The lyrics verge on the schmaltzy (“Beautiful dreamer, wake unto me, starlight and dewdrops are waiting for thee; sounds of the rude world, heard in the day, lull’d by the moonlight have all passed away”). But in the fiddle and mandolin world, this has become a classic, played as an instrumental. Some great examples would be Kenny Baker on fiddle, or the legendary David Grisman on mandolin. But it works well for just about any instrument, and is a must-have for your waltz collection. This mandolin arrangement is easy to play, yet full of lots of juicy tremolo, and will be a favorite wherever you break it out…
